The way she walks back into school at the beginning of the book and her thought process as she walks down the hall is one of the best written internal dialogues. The difficulties of facing her peers, bullying and her memories being shared really build her character as strong, independent and struggling with her past trauma. The main character Ava is trying to put on a brave face after tragedy and she is seen as the enemy at school. The book deals with fragmented memories and flashbacks so you only have pieces of the full story and need to wait until the combination is finally revealed to know the whole story. This book is everything at once, it is emotional, maddening, a little scary, high school, dramatic and so real. Dear Ava by Ilsa Madden-Mills, is a book that I don't think I can ever forget! I love all kinds of books and usually read as an experience of calm but every once in a while I come across a book that makes such a huge impression it just stays on your soul. Everything arrives when it’s supposed to.” and I was already crying so hard, I could not see through my tears but I still could not stop reading.You all know I love to read and it is the most cathartic experience for me. I will not disclose the name and ruin the suspense but OMG! I love you!Ī man of every woman’s dreams, he had me fanning myself and had I not had my own swoony hero, I would have jumped in the book to grab him! When I adored Ava and was so impressed by her strength of character, I swooned over the hero. A new addition to my list of “favourite authors”, kudos to her for taking a risk by bringing to fore a serious issue like bullying and handling it so delicately to give every Ava in the world hope and strength to never let anyone dim her sparkle. Ilsa Madden-Mills has won my heart over with her beautiful narration, her soulful and vivid development of characters and the emotional upheaval she takes the readers through in her story. Undoubtedly one of the best books of 2020 that I have read so far and one of the very best I have read like ever, I feel at a loss of words to describe my feelings about this epic love story.
